Did Shaun Whites Surprise Proposal to Nina Dobrev Involve an Exclusive Dinner with Vogues Anna Wintour

Former snowboarding Olympian Shaun White recently pulled off an impressive feat off the slopes – a surprise proposal to actress Nina Dobrev that caught her completely off guard.

The couple, who have been dating since 2019, announced their engagement on Instagram, with Dobrev playfully captioning her post, “RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé.”

However, White had to go through a lot of hoops just to pop the question. According to an exclusive interview released by Vogue on September 30, his initial plans were derailed by unexpected circumstances, including a knee injury Dobrev sustained during a summer vacation. Determined to surprise his usually well-prepared girlfriend, White came up with a clever plan for a seemingly ordinary week in late October.

He orchestrated a fake invitation to an exclusive dinner with Vogue’s Anna Wintour at a New York City restaurant, The Golden Swan. Nina Dobrev, none the wiser, accepted the invitation. On the night of the supposed event, she arrived at the restaurant’s private room, fashionably dressed to impress in Channel.

Expecting a gathering with fashion industry leaders, the “Vampire Diaries” actress was taken aback to see only White waiting for her, surrounded by white roses. In her surprise, she exclaimed “No!” repeatedly—not as a refusal, but out of sheer joy and disbelief. Nina Dobrev later admitted to Vogue that she “blacked out” during the proposal but remembered that White “said all the right things.”

The engagement ring, a beautiful five-carat Lorraine Schwartz creation, had been carefully hidden by White in various spots around their home to maintain the element of surprise.

Following the proposal, the couple celebrated with friends, indulging in caviar and champagne. White and Dobrev kept their engagement under wraps for a few days, with the latter discreetly removing her ring whenever they went out. However, she couldn’t contain her excitement for long, telling Vogue, “I don’t want to take it off anymore!”

Now, even though it was all fake and Anna Wintour never sent an invitation or attended the dinner, we sure hope she gets her own Wedding invite. Meanwhile, a couple we all thought would be heading to the altar soon, recently broke off their engagement. Find out who they are here.
