Besides Grammy-winning artist Lil Durk, federal authorities have charged five other men from Chicago involved in a plot to murder Quando Rondo in Los Angeles. These defendants, Keith Jones, Kavon London Grant, David Brian Lindsey, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, and Asa Houston, were allegedly contracted to carry out the hit due to Rondo’s rumored role in the 2020 killing of fellow rapper King Von.
The indictment which was unsealed by the US District Court in Los Angeles, revealed that the accused have ties to the hip-hop group “Only the Family” (OTF), founded by Lil Durk in 2010. Prosecutors claim that funds from the group were used to finance flights and rental vehicles for the suspects. These men, two of whom are reported to be gang members, were arrested in Chicago and ordered to be held in custody.
The plot traces back to the aftermath of King Von’s death. An unnamed OTF member supposedly offered financial incentives and career opportunities to those who would eliminate Quando Rondo. So in August 2022, Rondo, his sister, and his cousin were ambushed in West Hollywood. While Rondo and his sister escaped injury, his cousin was fatally shot.
The indictment also outlines how one of the suspects, Grant, provided weapons, including a modified machine gun, and rented cars to follow Rondo. The suspects allegedly tracked Rondo’s vehicle to a gas station where the shooting occurred, later discussing payment at a local restaurant.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the five of them are now facing severe charges including conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, committing murder-for-hire involving a death, and using a machine gun in a violent crime.
This indictment complicates the situation for Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Derrick Banks. He was recently charged in connection with this case and has also faced a lawsuit related to the 2020 murder of rapper FBG Duck.
