Iran Launches Hundreds of Missiles Into Israel Hours After US Warning

On Tuesday, sirens were heard across Israel as hundreds of Iranian missiles entered the country. The U.S. had alerted Israel to a potential missile attack from Iran hours before the missiles were launched, so most Israeli air bases located near Tel Aviv had been evacuated.

Iran reportedly carried out this recent attack as retaliation against Israel, which launched an airstrike last week, resulting in the death of Hezbollah‘s leader, Hassan Nasrallah. Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson Daniel Hagari told CNN that despite the “serious attack” no injuries were sustained.

According to a statement released by the White House, President Joe Biden and his Vice President, Kamala Harris, had called for an urgent meeting with their national security teams to address the situation.

The White House reported that the leaders were receiving updates on the ongoing conflict from the White House Situation Room and directed the U.S. military forces to assist Israel in shooting down the enemy missiles.

CNN reported that the US Embassy in Israel had issued a security alert before the attack, instructing all US government personnel to “shelter in place until further notice” due to “the current security situation.”

The Guardian has shared footage of the moment when Iranian missiles flew into Israel. See video of the bombing below:

The Iranian Mission to the United Nations wrote on X that Iran is prepared to launch another “crushing” attack if Israel chooses to respond in kind or “commit further acts of malevolence”. They have also urged “Zionists’ supporters” to distance themselves from Israel. However, in a recent press briefing, IDF’s Rear Admiral Hagari stated that the recent attack will not go unanswered and will be met with serious consequences.

As of the time of writing, Israel has estimated that about a hundred and eighty missiles were launched on Tuesday. While most of them were shot down, a good number still dealt blows to the central and northern regions of the country.
