Racism: Man Claims Chick-fil-A Worker Changed His Name To Monkey On To-Go Order

A case of racism has been reported by a black man from Maryland at his local Chick-fil-A when he complained that a staff member of the restaurant replaced his name, “Marquise,” with “Monkeys,” on his to-go order.

The man, Marquise Vanzego, who resides on the La Plata side of Maryland, said that he went to get his dinner on August 23, when he was done with work and made the other via the drive-thru, when he first heard the name “Monkeys” being called, but he could not believe what he heard as he hoped that the order was not his.

He finally realized that he was the one being referred to as “Monkeys” when the order being called matched his and that he was in a white van.

Vanzego described the action as a stung to his heart. He quickly took it up with the on-duty manager, who pleaded on behalf of the staff and agreed to refund the order. He also proceeded to speak with a store manager, Kevin, who was absent when the incident occurred.

Vanzego kept a record of his conversation with the on-duty manager and made the videos and a letter he sent to Chick-fil-A available on social media platforms, gathering people’s attention and comments.

Among those who commented were those who sympathized with him and faulted the restaurant staff, while others said it might be due to an error that occurred from the drive-thru intercom system. He defended his position, saying he didn’t use an intercom during the purchase because he ordered directly from a “young white male” who was outside.

The black man went as far as speaking with Flatley, who, despite issuing an apology, claimed that the staff employment would not be terminated because he is under the age of 18, and further explained that the staff wrote the name that they had heard.
