A major breakthrough in the management and treatment of Parkinson’s disease was recently discovered with the launch of a new drug called Produodopa, which immediately stops the effects of the neurological disorder – being unable to control one’s body movement.

A video shows the quick effects of the drug on its first patient, Damien Gath. The video which was filmed by his wife, starts with the man showing severe symptoms of Parkinson’s, shaking and being unable to control his body while he tries to make a cup of tea

A later part shows the patient very calm and able to control his body movements after he had taken the Parkinson’s drug. He was able to carry the used teabag on a teaspoon and dispose of it in the trashcan.

The success of the new Parkinson’s disease drug Produodopa saw the 52-year-old who was diagnosed 12 years ago become the first successfully treated patient.

“For the last three years, I have been shaking uncontrollably for two to three hours a day”, he said. “I almost can’t believe that’s me in the video.

According to Parkinson’s UK, the groundbreaking drug Produodopa also called Foslevodopa-foscarbidopa was approved by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) last year, and will become available in the NHS in England from 27 February 2025 for people who suffer from movement-related symptoms from the disorder, with about 900 people already standing in line.

Produodopa is easily administered to the patient via under the skin and controlled by a small automatic pump worn 24 hours a day. Currently, patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease tale large numbers of tablets to manage its symptoms – some take as much as 20 tablets of medicine a day.
