Shakur Stevenson Retains WBC Title With Lackluster Win

American boxer Shakur Stevenson successfully defended his WBC lightweight title with a less than thrilling points win over Artem Harutyunyan in New Jersey.

Stevenson, 27, displayed superior skill throughout the bout, maintaining control from start to finish.

The judges scored the fight 119-109, 118-110, and 116-112 in Stevenson’s favor, confirming his victory.

Despite some boos from the audience at the fight’s conclusion, Stevenson stood by his performance, remarking, “It’s challenging to showcase skills when your opponent isn’t engaging.”

Speaking to ESPN he added: “I want to fight the best fighters.

“That’s how you’re going to get to see the best version of me, when you put me in the ring with somebody else that wants to fight back and compete.”

Stevenson, a former featherweight and super-featherweight champion, maintains an undefeated record since turning professional in 2017.
