A man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the attempted homicide of a uniformed army officer who was stabbed near a barracks in Kent.
Anthony Esan, 24, was regarded in Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday following costs introduced earlier that day.
The court ordered Mr. Esan to be remanded into custody “for his own welfare and due to the seriousness of the offenses alleged.”
Lt. Col. Mark Teeton, who is in his 40s, was stabbed shortly before 6:00 p.m. BST on Tuesday in Sally Port Gardens, close to Brompton Barracks.
He remains in a serious but strong situation inside the health facility.
Mr. Esan, additionally charged with possession of an offensive weapon, was arrested half an hour later, close to his residence on Mooring Road, Rochester, consistent with police.
When requested to verify his date of start and comply with the court docket, Mr. Esan spoke back, “Why?”
Prosecutor Rajni Prashar advised the court that a man had been visible “walking up in the back of” Lt. Col. Teeton before pulling him to the floor and stabbing him “time and again.”
Prosecutors said Mr. Esan was arrested while on a moped quickly after the incident.
Several knives were determined during a search of the moped’s storage compartment, they stated.
Mr. Esan is supposed to be at Maidstone Crown Court on August 22.

Lt. Col. Teeton oversees an engineering course for the Royal Engineers. The nearby barracks house the 1st Royal School of Military Engineering Regiment.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: “Our thoughts are with [the soldier], his circle of relatives, and our defense force, who serve to hold us safe.”
