Joey Chestnut Barred From Nathan’s Contest But Still Indulged In Hot Dogs On July 4th

Although Joey Chestnut was banned from competing in Nathan’s Hotdog Eating Contest on Coney Island on July 4, he still managed to eat a lot of hot dogs.

This year, Chestnut participated in an exhibition at the Fort Bliss Army base in El Paso, Texas, where he attempted to eat the same number of hot dogs as the Nathan’s contest winner, but in five minutes instead of ten.

Why was Joey Chestnut banned?
Chestnut, a famed Westfield resident renowned for his record-breaking titles in competitive eating, was barred from this year’s Nathan’s contest after endorsing Impossible Foods, which recently launched a plant-based hot dog.

Nathan’s has a longstanding rule that competitors should not endorse a rival brand if they wish to compete in their annual hot dog eating contest.

How many hot dogs did Joey Chestnut eat this year?
Chestnut ate 57 hot dogs in five minutes at the Fort Bliss exhibition, only one less than Pat Bertoletti, who ate 58 hot dogs in ten minutes to win this year’s Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest and the mustard belt.

What is Joey Chestnut’s record?
Chestnut set his record in 2021 by eating 76 hot dogs and buns in ten minutes at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. In 2023, Chestnut won his 16th title at the competition by eating 62 hot dogs, making him one of only four competitors to eat 50 or more hot dogs.
