Iran has denied and condemned recent U.S. media reports suggesting it was plotting to kill former President Donald Trump.
A foreign ministry spokesman rejected the claim, calling it “malicious,” emphasizing that Iran has no intention of attacking the former president.
Although Nasser Kanaani said that Iran still intends to prosecute Trump for the other case that he gave for the 2020 assassination of a senior Iranian military official.
CNN on Tuesday cited unnamed U.S. officials to say that American authorities had recently discovered an Iranian threat against Trump, leading to increased security around the former president.
This, however, did not stop a shooting incident at a rally on Saturday. The U.S. report specifically stated that the Iranian threat was not in connection with the Pennsylvania shooting, allegedly carried out by a lone 20-year-old gunman.
Kanaani reiterated that Iran “strongly rejects its involvement in the recent armed attack against Trump that also claimed his life or claims about Iran’s intention for such an action,” labeling these allegations as politically motivated. He stressed that Iran will still pursue legal action against Trump for his role in the killing of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Qassem Soleimani in 2020.
