Golden State Warriors Secure Guard Buddy Hield In $21 Million Sign-And-Trade Deal With The 76ers

The Golden State Warriors have swapped one 3-point specialist for another. Shortly after former Warrior Klay Thompson inked a three-year, $50 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks, Golden State completed a sign-and-trade deal to acquire Buddy Hield from the Philadelphia 76ers, as reported by multiple sources.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the agreement guarantees Hield $18 million over two years, with a partial guarantee of $3 million in the third year and a player option for the fourth year, which is non-guaranteed. In exchange, the 76ers received a 2031 second-round pick via the Mavericks.

Hield, who averaged 12.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game this season, began the year with the Indiana Pacers before being traded to Philadelphia in February. Although he played in every regular season game, he did not start many games with either team.

Known for his prowess as a top 3-point shooter in recent years, Hield will now partner with Stephen Curry in the Warriors’ backcourt. Given their combined total of the most 3-pointers made over the past five seasons, Hield is poised to fill Thompson’s role and continue the legacy of the Splash Brothers.

Thompson’s departure marks a significant shift for the Warriors after a decade of dominance with their core players. Golden State missed the playoffs this season after losing to the Sacramento Kings in the play-in tournament.

Currently, Hield is in Valencia, Spain, contributing to the Bahamas’ unexpected Olympic qualifying campaign in men’s basketball. The team is two victories away from securing a spot in Paris for their first-ever Olympic appearance. The Bahamas’ squad is coached by Chris DeMarco, an assistant coach with the Warriors.
