Bronny James signed a four-year, $7.9 million contract with the Lakers on Wednesday, according to a league source speaking to ESPN. This deal was finalized on the same day LeBron James agreed to an extension with the team, ensuring that the first father-son duo in NBA history will play together for the purple and gold next season.

Bronny’s contract starts at $1,157,143 for the 2024-25 season and increases to $1,955,377 in the following year. It then progresses to $2,296,271 for the 2026-27 season, with a team option of $2,486,955 for the 2027-28 season, as reported by ESPN sources.

The Lakers announced on Wednesday that they had signed Bronny James and Dalton Knecht, the No. 17 pick in this year’s draft, without disclosing the terms of the contracts.

During his time at USC, James averaged 4.8 points on 36.6% shooting (26.7% from three), 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 19.3 minutes per game. He noted that his nearly five-month layoff due to a heart procedure last summer impacted his development.

Lakers vice president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka praised Bronny’s mindset and potential as a point-of-attack defender. New Lakers coach JJ Redick also highlighted that Bronny, whom Los Angeles selected with the No. 55 pick last week, will be a top priority in the team’s revamped player development program.

Bronny James and Dalton Knecht will make their summer league debuts on Saturday in San Francisco against the Sacramento Kings in the California Classic.

The Lakers’ roster now stands at 15 players, the maximum number an NBA team can carry.
