“They say as soon as you see him, everything that you thought mattered just goes out the window,” Griner said. “And that’s literally what happens.”
This joyful moment comes after a challenging period in Griner’s life. Less than two years ago, she was detained in Russia for nearly 10 months over a small amount of medical marijuana in her luggage. Her experiences in the Russian penal colony are detailed in her recent memoir, “Coming Home.”
Despite the hardships, Brittney Griner has bounced back both personally and professionally. She returned to the WNBA with a bang, scoring 18 points in her first game back with the Phoenix Mercury.
