Alex Soros, son of billionaire philanthropist George Soros, and Huma Abedin, former top aide to Hillary Clinton, have just recently announced their engagement.

The couple shared the news on Instagram Wednesday, stating, “This happened…we couldn’t be happier, more grateful, or more in love.”

Soros, 38, and Abedin, 47, met at a mutual friend’s birthday party in the fall of 2023. Soros proposed at their New York City home in late May, which was later followed by a celebration in Italy.

While the couple has largely kept their relationship private, the two have been spotted at various high-profile events. Events like the Met Gala as well as a White House state dinner hosted in honor of the Kenyan president.

Alex Soros recently succeeded his father as chair of the Open Society Foundations, a philanthropic network known for supporting democratic causes. He has been more public about his Jewish identity than his father, actively supporting Jewish organizations. His first major donation through his personal foundation was to Bend The Arc, a progressive Jewish group.

Abedin, raised in Saudi Arabia by Muslim parents, has had a notable career in American politics. She worked closely with Hillary Clinton during her tenure as Secretary of State and her presidential campaign. Abedin told Vogue, “We quickly discovered our mutual interests in politics and public service.”

The engagement brings together two individuals with different cultural backgrounds and significant influence in their respective fields. Abedin was previously married to former Rep. Anthony Weiner. They separated in 2016, a year before he was incarcerated for sexting a minor.
