Yankees Lineup Struggles With Juan Soto Out Due To Forearm Inflammation

Without slugger Juan Soto, the New York Yankees are struggling to generate offense.

Soto missed Saturday night’s game due to left forearm inflammation, and New York suffered an 11-3 defeat, marking its second consecutive loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Despite having the best record in the American League at 45-21, the Yankees have scored only four runs in 23 innings since Soto exited Thursday night’s 8-5 win over the Twins with forearm discomfort. Three of those runs came from two solo homers by Aaron Judge and his RBI single in the 11th inning of a 2-1 loss on Friday night.

Manager Aaron Boone said Soto will “probably” hit on Sunday.

The star right fielder missed his first game of the season on Friday night in the series opener against the Dodgers after being removed from Thursday’s game versus Minnesota following a 56-minute rain delay before the sixth inning. Soto mentioned that his throwing arm’s forearm had been bothering him for about 1 1/2 to two weeks.

A scan showed only inflammation, which Soto called “a relief,” and he is day to day.

Center fielder Trent Grisham replaced Soto in the lineup again, with Judge shifting from center to right. For the second straight night, left fielder Alex Verdugo was moved up from cleanup to Soto’s usual No. 2 spot in the batting order.

Boone stated that Soto was receiving treatment on Saturday afternoon.

Boone was asked if the injured list might be considered if Soto doesn’t show significant progress in the next few days.

Soto is batting .318 with 17 home runs, 53 RBIs, and a 1.027 OPS.
