An 8-year-old Pekingese named Wild Thang was crowned the World’s Ugliest Dog on Friday in California.

The World’s Ugliest Dog contest is an annual event held at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma.

Wild Thang, this year’s champion, had previously finished in second place three times in the contest.

The dog’s appearance is notable for his lolling tongue and unruly fur.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Wild Thang recently moved to Oregon with his owner, Ann Lewis.

He and his owner took home the top prize of a $5,000 check.

According to Wild Thang’s bio, he contracted distemper as a puppy from a rescue foster, which caused his tongue to stick out.

Wild Thang’s owner says he is happy and healthy despite his physical issues.

The World’s Ugliest Dog contest has been a highlight of the fair for almost 50 years.

It promotes adopting dogs, especially senior dogs, from shelters rather than breeders.
