Karl-Anthony Towns Wishes To Remain With Minnesota Timberwolves Next Season

In light of Thursday’s game that ended the season, the Wolves attention is now on how to improve upon one of their best seasons ever and a pivotal offseason.

Going into the offseason, Minnesota had a massive payroll of about $193 million, which is marginally more than the second-best projection of $192 million for the forthcoming campaign. The Wolves’ front office now faces the difficult task of building a roster that reached the Western Conference Finals while navigating severe financial constraints due to exceeding that second apron.

For many years, Karl-Anthony Towns has been mentioned often in trade rumors. It should come as no surprise that KAT remains a hot topic in trade talks, given that his salary is expected to increase from $36 million to $49 million in the upcoming season.

Apart from wanting to stay in Minnesota, Towns said he has no expectations for the future after Thursday’s 124–103 rout.

“I’m confident that I’m going to be here with my brothers and continuing to do what I love here at home. That’s the plan,” Towns said. “Nothing’s ever changed on my side. I love this city. I love this organization. I love this city. I love what its given me in my life and given me and my family. It’s been about 20 minutes, I got a lot to decompress. I got a lot to think about but it’s never changed, since day one about this organization. The plan is to be here.”

Towns stated that he does not believe the current ownership dispute will have an impact on his long-term future with the team.

Towns said that he is only focused on getting better and building off of one of his best seasons to date, about the ongoing trade rumors.

“I think for me with all the noise and stuff, I go into the gym every day and work tremendously hard so I can be the best version of myself,” Towns explained. “I think that I took a step in my career this year in my overall game. The work that I put in, I feel its shown itself this season in taking another step. So, I expect nothing less this offseason with taking even another step with the experience of going on this playoff run.”
