Whoopi Goldberg Bares Her Past Struggles With Addiction In Forthcoming Memoir

The celebrated actress and EGOT winner, Whoopi Goldberg, offers an intimate portrayal of her past struggles with cocaine addiction in her upcoming memoir, “Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me.”

Set for release on May 7, the memoir delves deep into Goldberg’s journey, chronicling her ascent to fame alongside the inner turmoil she battled.

In her autobiography, Goldberg candidly recounts her early encounters with drugs, drawn by the allure of Hollywood’s glitz and glamour, leading her to experiment with cocaine.

“I was invited to parties where I was greeted at the door with a bowl of Quaaludes from which I could pick what I wanted,” the star wrote.

“Lines of cocaine were laid across tables and bathroom counters for the taking.”

Despite initially believing she could manage her drug use, Goldberg reveals how cocaine gradually spiraled out of control, resulting in frightening episodes of paranoia and hallucinations.

A pivotal moment occurred during her stay at a Manhattan hotel, where Goldberg confronted the stark reality of her addiction, prompting her to make the courageous decision to embark on a journey to sobriety.

“I knew I’d have to change out my friends and turn down invitations but I could do that,” she recalls. “I didn’t want to die.”
