Ralph Ineson Joins “The Fantastic Four” As Supervillain Galactus

One of the distinguished character actors of his generation, known for possessing one of the most remarkable voices in cinema, is set to make his mark in the MCU.

Ralph Ineson has been cast in director Matt Shakman’s rendition of The Fantastic Four as the formidable supervillain Galactus, a significant antagonist within Marvel’s universe. Ineson’s versatile career includes roles in major franchises like the Harry Potter films, acclaimed indies such as The Witch, and recent hits like The Green Knight. Now, he takes on the role of a villain in one of Marvel’s highly anticipated upcoming projects.

Ineson joins Pedro Pascal as scientist Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as her brother Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. The latest additions to the ensemble include Julia Garner as a female Silver Surfer, and Paul Walter Hauser and John Malkovich in undisclosed roles.

Galactus, an iconic cosmic entity within Marvel lore, was co-created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the visionaries behind the Fantastic Four and numerous other beloved characters.

Shakman is tasked with reviving the Fantastic Four franchise within the MCU following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019. The new adaptation is expected to diverge significantly from Fox’s previous attempts, notably the less-favorably received portrayal of Galactus as a computer-generated cloud in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Shakman, renowned for his work on WandaVision, directs from a screenplay by Eric Pearson, known for his contributions to Black Widow and Thor: Ragnarok.

Marvel teased aspects of the reboot’s direction through released illustrations, hinting at a 1960s setting, as indicated by a Life Magazine cover from December 1963, suggesting a departure from the current MCU timeline. Shakman’s familiarity with the era, demonstrated in WandaVision, suggests a meticulous attention to period detail.

The film’s potential placement in the 1960s hints at a narrative detached from the current MCU events, possibly existing in a parallel universe, providing Marvel and Shakman creative freedom before integrating with the broader MCU timeline, potentially in Avengers: Secret Wars slated for 2027.

The Fantastic Four is scheduled for release in theaters on July 25, 2025.
