Olly Alexander‘s father expressed surprise that audiences didn’t resonate with his son’s Eurovision performance. Representing the UK with his song “Dizzy,” Olly received no points from the public vote and landed 18th overall at the Malmo Arena in Sweden.

David Thornton remarked that despite the outcome, participating in the final provided valuable lessons for his son.

Speaking from his Eurovision party in Sheffield, Mr. Thornton commented, “It’s one more step towards wherever he’s going.”

Born in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, Olly earned 46 points from the jury but failed to garner any public support. The former Years & Years singer, 33, faced criticism on social media for his vocals during the semi-final after his mic pack fell off.

Despite the UK’s disappointment, Mr. Thornton advised to always find the bright side, referencing Olly’s song “Dizzy.”

In contrast, Switzerland emerged victorious in the competition with 591 points.

Swiss singer Nemo, performing “The Code,” a fusion of opera and hip-hop, became the first non-binary artist to win Eurovision.

During their victory speech, Nemo expressed hopes for the contest to uphold its promise of standing for peace and dignity for all individuals.

Croatia secured second place with the lively party anthem “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” by Baby Lasagna, amassing a total of 547 points, while Ukraine claimed third with 453 points.
