Nick Carter’s Ex Kaya Jones Suspects ‘Something Horrific’ Occurred To His Rape Accuser Melissa Schuman

Melissa Schuman, who had accused Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter of rape, found support from Kaya Jones, Carter’s ex-girlfriend.

Jones says she contacted Schuman in 2017 after the Dream singer accused Carter of raping her in his Santa Monica apartment in 2003. The clip is from the new Investigation Discovery docuseries Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter, as reported by PEOPLE.

Following Jones’ 2004 departure from the Pussycat Dolls, Schuman reached out to her on Twitter and requested her phone number; eventually, Schuman gave it to Jones.

Carter’s lawyer, Dale Hayes Jr., described the allegations in Fallen Idols as “outrageous” in a statement to PEOPLE. He also mentioned that Carter’s countersuit against his accusers is still pending in court.

Schuman, now 39, first went public with her accusations against Carter, 44, in a 2017 blog post on her website, claiming that at the time of the rape at his home, she was an 18-year-old virgin. Carter said that their sexual encounter was consensual at the time and refuted the accusations.

Schuman was a part of Carter’s countersuit against Shannon Ruth in February 2023. Ruth had sued Schuman two months prior for alleged sexual battery. Carter accused the women of exploiting the #MeToo movement to launch a conspiracy to “defame and vilify” him for attention and money.

In April 2023, Schuman sued Carter for sexual assault and battery over the alleged 2003 incident. Carter’s attorney responded, calling Schuman’s allegations “false” and a “PR stunt.” Both lawsuits are still pending.

In the Fallen Idols clip, Jones recalls tweeting a warning to Carter in 2017: “Don’t lie Nick. I’m no longer keeping your secrets.” She also hints at an undisclosed incident that led her to break up with him.

In a previously released trailer for Fallen Idols, Jones states she knows things about Carter “that could burn his whole house down… I know how evil he can be.”

The four-part docuseries chronicles the lives of Nick and his late brother Aaron Carter, from their rise to pop stardom in the late 1990s to their struggles and family conflicts, including Aaron’s death in 2022. Interviews with Melanie Martin, Aaron’s previous fiancée, Carter’s accusers, and family friends and cousins are included.
