Nebraska Baseball Secures First Big Ten Tournament Title with Ninth-Inning Rally

Nebraska baseball clinched a defensive victory on Sunday to secure the Big Ten baseball tournament title.

The Huskers edged out the Nittany Lions 2-1 at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.

This marks Nebraska’s first tournament championship, making them the first team since 1995 to win the title after losing the opening game.

Penn State took an early lead in the first inning due to a Nebraska error.

With bases loaded, Joe Jaconski scored on a failed pickoff attempt by Husker pitcher Jackson Brockett.

Meanwhile, Penn State’s Travis Luensmann dominated the first three innings, allowing no hits and striking out five.

Nebraska posed a scoring threat in the fourth inning, but the Nittany Lions executed a double play to end the inning.

The Huskers leveled the score in the top of the seventh with a home run to right field by Josh Caron, his sixth of the tournament—a record.

In the ninth inning, Cayden Brumbaugh stole second base and then scored on a Gabe Swansen double, giving Nebraska the lead.

Brockett recovered from a rough first inning, allowing only one hit and striking out four over the next seven innings.

He was replaced in the ninth by Brett Sears, who secured the save.

Next, Nebraska heads to the NCAA tournament, starting Friday.

Their opponent will be announced on Monday.
