Mexico authorities have discovered three bodies in an area of Baja California where two Australian brothers and an American went missing.
According to CBS News, the bodies were found in the town of Santo Tomas, and their identities have not yet been established.
Jake, 30, and Callum Robinson, 33, hailing from Perth, along with American Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, vanished during a surfing vacation near the popular tourist spot of Ensenada on April 27th.
In connection with their disappearance, Mexican police interrogated a woman and two men on Thursday.
The Baja California prosecutor’s office stated that forensic tests will be conducted by a state laboratory to identify the recovered bodies. Additionally, arrest warrants for the crime of forced disappearance have been issued.
Previously, abandoned tents, a charred white pickup truck, and a phone linked to the missing tourists were discovered.
A search operation involving firefighters had been ongoing in a remote cliff area to locate the Robinson brothers and Mr. Rhoad.
Responding to inquiries from CBS News, the FBI stated that while they could not discuss specific details, they are diligently assessing all leads.
Despite being one of Mexico’s most violent states, owing to turf wars among local drug gangs, Ensenada’s surfing conditions, located 90 minutes south of the US-Mexico border, have long attracted tourists from California.
