Intensity Escalates Between Bruins And Panthers Following Bennett’s Hit On Marchand

The rivalry between the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers intensifies as their Eastern Conference second-round series progresses.

Reports indicate that Panthers center Sam Bennett will not face fines or suspensions for a controversial hit on Bruins left wing Brad Marchand during Friday night’s Game 3 at TD Garden, according to Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald.

Despite the hit being near the Bruins bench and resulting in Marchand’s slow recovery, with him eventually missing the third period due to an upper-body injury, no penalty was called on the play. Initial replays suggested a less severe impact, but additional angles raise questions about a possible jab to Marchand’s head by Bennett.

“In real time, my eyes weren’t on there as the puck had left that area,” Montgomery told reporters. “But having seen it, there’s a history there with Bennett. Hard player, but there’s clearly evidence of what went on. People can say it wasn’t intentional, but we have our view of it.”

During Saturday’s practice, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery shared insights on the incident, noting Marchand’s status as “day to day.”

Panthers head coach Paul Maurice offered contrasting views on Bennett’s hit, underscoring the differing perspectives within the teams.

Bennett’s history includes a similar hit on Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies in last season’s playoffs, resulting in Knies missing several games with a concussion. However, Bennett’s return to the Panthers lineup in Game 3 followed a five-game absence due to injury.

The Panthers emerged victorious with a 6-2 win in Game 3, claiming a 2-1 series lead as they prepare for Game 4 at TD Garden on Sunday night.
