Intense Rainfall And Isolated Storms Expected This Morning, Followed By Another Wave Tonight

Central Mississippi is under a yellow alert today, with concerns of gusty storms and flash flooding looming both this morning and evening.

The initial bout of heavy rainfall and storms this morning has already caused damage, including reports of downed trees in Lawrence County and damage to homes. Additionally, more than 40,000 customers statewide are currently without power.

Expect the heavy rain and storms to persist until mid-morning, followed by dry conditions for the remainder of the day. Temperatures will start in the 60s this morning and climb to the upper 70s by afternoon. Rain is forecasted to return in the evening and last until midnight. Although severe storms are most likely to occur south of Highway 98 and in Louisiana, the potential for a strong storm exists.

Overnight, skies will remain predominantly cloudy, gradually clearing by tomorrow. Temperatures will range from the 60s in the morning to the mid-80s in the afternoon. While an isolated shower may occur until midday, Tuesday is expected to be predominantly dry, with partly cloudy skies returning in the afternoon.

Wednesday through Thursday is forecasted to be dry with sunny skies developing by Wednesday and clouds returning gradually by Thursday. Morning temperatures will hover around the 60s, rising to the mid-80s in the afternoons. However, rain is anticipated to make a comeback late Thursday, persisting through Friday.

The weekend appears to offer drier conditions, albeit with the possibility of a stray shower on Saturday. Temperatures are set to rise, with morning lows flirting with the 70s and highs reaching the mid-80s on Saturday and potentially climbing to the upper 80s, with some areas even touching 90 degrees, on Sunday.
