Gabby Douglas Withdraws From Core Hydration Classic After Awful Scoring

Gabby Douglas’s performance at the U.S Classic was not what fans expected as she withdrew from the Core Hydration Classic after a poor score.

The disappointment came after the first performance on Saturday night. No reason was particularly given, but she’d come off the uneven bars twice.

Douglas who won the 2012 Olympics was hoping to make the Paris team eight years after her last performance and was trying to qualify for the all-around at the national championships in two weeks. Douglas is already in line to do three events – vault, balance beam, and bars – but was required to score a 51 or more to do all four at the Nationals with a 10.1 on bars.

It was evident that Douglas was not happy as she left the uneven bars podium. She was on the floor for a few moments before she left.

Douglas also had a rough go at the American Classic in April, her first competition some her last game at the Rio Games. She also fell twice on uneven bars while she wished to return to the competition. Douglas looked much improved in training here but seemed to be feeling the nerves one more time.

“I honestly didn’t do the best that I wanted,” Douglas said Friday of that meet. “But I have to give myself a little grace because it’s been so long.”
