During the postseason, Al Montoya emphasized that the entire community benefits, particularly when the Dallas Stars are in action.
As the first Cuban-American to grace the NHL, Montoya presently serves as the Dallas Stars Vice President of Cultural Growth and Strategy. He remains deeply committed to expanding the Stars’ reach and fostering hockey’s growth among underrepresented communities, both locally and globally.
At the heart of their efforts lies the message that hockey is a sport for all. Their mission aims to extend this message to children who might otherwise lack access. Partnering with the National Hockey League, the initiative involves 50 children, aiming to introduce them to the game.
On the local front, Montoya has collaborated with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dallas to establish the free Future Stars program, which brings hockey to schools and facilities across the region. Since its inception in 2023, the Future Stars initiative has expanded from two locations to nine, offering weekly youth hockey programs in underserved communities, supported by equipment and resources.
Additionally, the Stanley Cup Playoffs catalyze heightened fan engagement and community involvement. The increased attention and awareness have bolstered fundraising endeavors, particularly through the 50/50 raffle at home games. Half of the proceeds from the jackpot are directed to the Dallas Stars Foundation, furthering its mission to support North Texans through Youth Hockey, Community Engagement, and Health and Education initiatives.
Currently, the Dallas Stars are competing in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Colorado Avalanche.
