The Columbus Crew embarked on a journey to Monterrey and once again emerged victorious, silencing Estadio BBVA with an impressive display to secure a spot in the CONCACAF Champions Cup Final after defeating Rayados 3-1 (5-2 on aggregate) on their home turf Wednesday evening.

The Black & Gold kicked off with fervor, probing Rayados’ defense and testing goalkeeper Esteban Andrada. Forward Cucho Hernandez unleashed a long-distance shot in the opening minute, narrowly missing the target.

However, the momentum shifted unexpectedly when Rayados took the lead in the 10th minute, with midfielder Maxi Meza’s effort deflecting off the crossbar and resulting in an own goal by Crew defender Yevhen Cheberko.

Despite this setback, the MLS champions maintained their composure and ball possession, though struggled to penetrate Rayados’ defense.

In the dying moments of the first half, Andrada’s blunder gifted the Crew an opportunity, as midfielder Derrick Jones capitalized on the goalkeeper’s mistake to equalize just before halftime.

The Black & Gold wasted no time in the second half, with forward Diego Rossi swiftly extending their lead with a well-placed shot past the diving goalkeeper.

Despite Rayados’ attempts to mount a comeback, the Crew’s resolute defense thwarted their efforts, with goalkeeper Patrick Schulte making crucial saves to preserve the lead.

In the closing stages of the game, midfielder Russell-Rowe sealed the victory for the Crew with a late goal, securing their place in the final.

Although Andrada saved a penalty kick in the dying moments, the final whistle confirmed the Crew’s triumph.

Having overcome formidable opponents in Mexico, the Columbus Crew now turn their attention to a showdown against FC Cincinnati on May 11th, as they continue their quest for glory in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
