Club América President Considers Hosting Liga MX Games In The U.S

Club América president Santiago Baños has expressed the possibility of hosting Liga MX home games in the United States while Estadio Azteca undergoes renovations for the 2026 World Cup.

For the 2024-25 season, Club América is scheduled to share Mexico City’s Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes with their rivals Cruz Azul. However, they are also exploring options for playing home games both within Mexico and in the U.S.

Baños referenced an antitrust lawsuit against U.S. Soccer and FIFA, which challenges the rule preventing countries from hosting league matches involving foreign teams.

This lawsuit, filed by New York’s Relevent Sports after being blocked from hosting LaLiga and Ecuadorian league matches in the U.S., was allowed to proceed by the Supreme Court in April.

Recently, FIFA withdrew from the case and announced the creation of a panel to advise on rule changes for “out-of-territory” matches. LaLiga president Javier Tebas expressed optimism in April about playing games in the U.S.

After competing against Cruz Azul in the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes on Thursday for the first leg of the Liga MX final, Club América will conclude the championship series at their home stadium, Estadio Azteca, on Sunday.
