Barron Trump Declines To Serve As A Delegate At The Republican National Convention

Barron Trump’s anticipated debut in the national political arena has encountered a delay.

Following the Republican Party of Florida’s announcement naming him as one of their at-large delegates for the Republican National Convention in July, former First Lady Melania Trump released a statement asserting his non-participation.

“While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments,” read the statement first reported by the Daily Mail.

Melania’s statement followed the approval by Florida GOP officials of the delegation slate destined for the RNC convention in Milwaukee.

Among the notable figures on the Florida delegate roster are Eric Trump serving as delegation chair, alongside other family members such as Donald Trump Jr. with his fiancee Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Tiffany Trump with her husband, Michael Boulos.

Barron’s inclusion garnered significant attention, given his relatively low profile in politics compared to other family members.

Despite the active political engagement of much of the Trump family, Barron has largely remained on the periphery. Having recently turned 18 in March, he is set to graduate from high school on May 17.

Barron refrained from making any public statements following his selection as a delegate, and the Trump campaign chose not to comment when queried about his designation.

The Republican Party of Florida did not offer a response when contacted about Barron’s withdrawal as a delegate, leaving uncertainty regarding his replacement.

In an interview on Friday, Donald Trump expressed his belief that his youngest son would have been well-suited for the role, indicating his confidence in Barron’s potential in the political sphere.

“He does like politics. It’s sort of funny. He will tell me sometimes, ‘Dad, this is what you have to do,’” Trump told Philadelphia’s Talk Radio 1210 WPHT radio station. “So anyway, he’s a good guy. He is a senior now in high school and he will be going to college.”
