A Boeing 737 Southwest Airlines had parts of its engine covers shredding off as the aircraft took off from the runway – the footage recorded by one of the passengers onboard.
The malfunction forced the Boeing 737-800 Southwest Airlines Flight WN3695/SWA3695 plane which was leaving Denver International Airport bound for Houston, Texas, to make an emergency landing.
The air traffic control received emergency reports from the pilots requesting an emergency landing after a piece of engine cowling had detached and was dangling off the plane.
Video recorded by a passenger shows the detached engine cowling flapping during the flight. The aircraft successfully returned to Denver International Airport and landed safely with no injuries.
The recent mishap has thrown another huge dent on Boeing, which has been accused of using substandard parts in the production of its aircrafts.
The aircraft manufacturing company has been in the bad lights of the media in recent times following reports of its planes having issues mid-flight and the death of John Barnett, a former employee and whistleblower who was at the center of legal litigation against the company on safety concerns.
