Marvel’s most irreverent and razor-clawed heroes are bringing the chaos (and classic Madonna tunes) in the explosive new trailer for “Deadpool and Wolverine.”
The highly-anticipated third installment of the “Deadpool” film franchise and Ryan Reynolds’ introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn’t disappoint, teasing an absolute bloodbath between the wisecracking mercenary and his surgically-enhanced BFF.
Set to the iconic beats of “Like a Prayer”, the trailer intersperses scenes of the foul-mouthed pair trading barbs and bullets amid gloriously over-the-top action sequences. When Deadpool laments he’s “about to lose everything”, Wolverine’s gruff response is “Not my f**king problem” — words he instantly regrets when Deadpool blasts him repeatedly with gunfire.
But the frenemies clearly know how to make up, later bonding over chimichangas as Deadpool asks “Wanna talk about what’s haunting you, or should we wait for a third act flashback?”
The film marks Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine after bidding farewell to the role in the 2017 “Logan.” His pairing with Reynolds’ anarchic antihero sets the stage for a genre mashup combining profane comedy with trademark Marvel spectacle.
Directed by Shawn Levy from a script by Reynolds and the writers of the previous two “Deadpool” films, the movie will introduce Wolverine to the established Marvel Cinematic Universe after his arrival was teased in the Super Bowl trailer that shattered online viewing records.
Along for the ride are Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams and Matthew Macfadyen in a stacked supporting cast. Plot details remain under wraps, but the trailer hints at a multiversal storyline that finds Deadpool and Wolverine caught up in the machinations of the Time Variance Authority last seen in the Disney+ series “Loki.”
The R-rated threequel could be a worldwide smash when it slices into theaters this July 26th. Watch the trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine below.
