“MaXXXine” Trailer Teases Bloody Conclusion to Ti West’s “X” Trilogy

A24 has unveiled the first trailer for “MaXXXine”, the highly anticipated final chapter in Ti West’s grisly slasher trilogy that began with last year’s “X” and “Pearl”.

The trailer promises an ultra-violent, star-studded conclusion as Mia Goth’s aspiring actress Maxine attempts to make it big in 1980s Hollywood while being stalked by a mysterious killer.

Set after the events of “X” and its 1918-set prequel “Pearl”, “MaXXXine” follows the titular character, now going by Maxine Minx, as she gets her big break in the adult film industry. But as Maxine ascends, leaving a trail of bodies in her wake, her dark past threatens to catch up with her.

The trailer is soaked in neon and dripping with blood, stylishly blending the glitz of Hollywood dreams with brutal slasher horror.

Goth is joined by an ensemble cast including Kevin Bacon, Bobby Cannavale, Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Lily Collins, Halsey and Giancarlo Esposito.

In an interview earlier this year with Variety, Goth teased “MaXXXine” as “the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes”, promising her character goes through “some pretty wild adventures” in her quest for stardom in the City of Angels.

Director Ti West has steadily built anticipation for the trilogy capper, exploring Maxine’s origin as the elderly, murderous Pearl and then depicting her first cinematic kills in “X”. Now the full scope of her ambition and savagery appears to be on display in 1980s Los Angeles.

Producers have kept specific plot details tightly under wraps, but the trailer suggests plenty of shocking twists and turns are in store as Maxine’s insatiable drive for fame appears to transform into an unrelenting bloodlust.

After earning critical acclaim and cult status for “X” and “Pearl”, expectations are sky-high for West and Goth to stick the landing with “MaXXXine” and deliver a wholly satisfying end to their retro-horror phenomenon.

The slasher trilogy finale “MaXXXine” slices its way into theaters on July 5th from A24.
