Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is reportedly cooperating with authorities following his alleged involvement in a high-speed crash in Dallas, according to his attorney.
The collision, involving two luxury cars, resulted in both drivers fleeing the scene, as confirmed by authorities.
Rice’s attorney, Royce West, stated that Rice is committed to handling the situation responsibly and expressed sympathy for those affected by the accident.
The incident occurred on North Central Expressway in Dallas on Saturday evening, involving two speeding drivers who lost control and triggered a chain reaction collision with four other vehicles.
Reports indicate that one of the vehicles involved, a Corvette, is either leased or registered to Rice, with authorities suspecting him as the driver based on a Dallas police call sheet.
Despite no major injuries reported, two individuals received on-site treatment, while two others were transported to a nearby hospital.
Video footage captured by witnesses and shared on social media depicts individuals fleeing the scene, prompting concerns about their well-being and accountability.
Attorney Marc C. Lenahan, representing one of the crash victims and assisting another, described the chaotic events leading up to the collision.
Rice, a Dallas native, was drafted by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft and contributed to the team’s Super Bowl victory in February.
While the NFL refrained from specific comments on the incident, it emphasized the standard procedure of monitoring developments and liaising with the respective team.
The Kansas City Chiefs have yet to issue a statement in response to the incident, with team president Mark Donovan indicating that the organization will respond appropriately pending further information gathering.
“In all these situations you have to wait until you have all the facts, and frankly, we don’t have all the facts at this point,” Donovan told Pete Mundo on Monday. “The one comforting fact that we do have is that there was a multi-car crash in Texas, in Dallas, and fortunately, it doesn’t appear that anyone was hurt, and we should be grateful for that. We’ll get to the bottom of it, we’ll gather the facts, and we’ll react accordingly.”
