The Florida Democratic Party is embracing the Taylor Swift phenomenon with open arms.
In light of the release of Taylor Swift’s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” the party is launching a voter registration drive aimed at engaging women aged 18 to 30, encouraging them to “Tay-ke back Florida.”
Dubbed “Florida Dems!!!,” the campaign draws inspiration from Swift’s new track “Florida!!!”
In a text message sent to registered Democrats within that demographic, the party invites Swifties “haunted by cheating Republicans and tortured by the prospect of another cruel summer in Florida” to join an organizing call with Florida Democratic Party chairperson Nikki Fried on April 25 at 6 p.m.
The text message emphasizes the urgency of the cause, likening the fight for Florida to a potent drug, and advocates for supporting initiatives like Amendment 3, which seeks to legalize recreational marijuana, and Amendment 4, which aims to safeguard abortion access in the state’s Constitution.
Although the campaign has been in the pipeline since Swift unveiled her “Tortured Poets Department” tracklist in February, there has been no direct communication with Taylor Swift’s team. This initiative seeks to engage young volunteers, providing them with training to register voters and reactivate inactive Democrats ahead of the upcoming November election.
Swift’s occasional forays into political activism have sometimes sparked controversy among her fanbase. However, her vocal opposition to former President Donald Trump in 2020 and her continued influence in the cultural landscape have fueled speculation that her endorsement could sway this year’s presidential race.
While Swift’s political involvement might not be as deep as some have theorized, her upcoming performances at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on October 18-20 offer a significant opportunity to mobilize thousands of voters in Florida.
