Billy Joel continues to serenade his “Uptown Girl,” former wife Christie Brinkley.
A recent video captured by a fan showcases Joel performing his iconic 1983 hit “Uptown Girl,” inspired by Brinkley, during a recent concert in New York City. Brinkley can be seen on the large screen at Madison Square Garden, joyfully laughing and dancing along as Joel sings.
“Uptown Girl” was released in 1983, quickly becoming a chart-topping sensation, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It went on to achieve triple Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America and remains a cherished favorite even decades later, thanks to its infectious chorus.
During a 2010 interview with Howard Stern, Joel revealed that while initially the song was inspired by multiple women, his focus eventually shifted solely to Brinkley.
Brinkley famously starred in the music video for “Uptown Girl” in 1983.
In 2014, Joel and Brinkley shared a reminiscent moment during another New York City concert, as cameras captured Brinkley enjoying the song from the audience.
Joel and Brinkley were married from 1985 to 1994 and share a daughter, Alexa Ray Joel. Both Joel and Brinkley have two additional children from previous relationships.
