Shohei Ohtani has unveiled his new wife’s identity — a former professional basketball player — by sharing a photo of the couple on social media.
Captured alongside his Los Angeles Dodgers teammate Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Ohtani stood proudly next to Mamiko Tanaka in front of an airplane, the image posted on Ohtani’s Instagram account. The Dodgers also featured a snapshot of the newlyweds on the team’s X account, juxtaposed with one of Mookie Betts and his spouse.
Further glimpses of the couple emerged in a video documenting Dodgers players and their families boarding a plane bound for South Korea, adding to the intrigue.
In a twist, Ohtani had previously announced in late February that he had recently tied the knot with “a normal Japanese woman” whom he had known for several years, but had withheld specifics about her identity or their nuptials.
Tanaka, 27, boasts a career with the Fujitsu Red Wave in the Women’s Japan Basketball League spanning from 2019 to 2023.
Anticipation mounts as Ohtani, 29, prepares for his Dodgers debut slated for Wednesday as designated hitter in the opener against the San Diego Padres in Seoul. Absent from pitching duties this season due to elbow surgery last autumn, Ohtani’s versatility continues to captivate fans worldwide.
