Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has unexpectedly resigned shortly after showing support for Patesline in the presence of US President Joe Biden.
‘We see our history in their eyes,’ Varadkar said during a St. Patrick’s Day reception with the American President. ‘A story of displacement, of dispossession, a national identity questioned and denied, forced emigration, discrimination, and now hunger.’
“We need to talk about how we can make that happen and move towards a two-state solution, which I think is the only way we’ll have lasting peace and security,” he said, urging Biden to an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” in Gaza.
However, 45-year-old Leo Varadkar, who is the first Ireland’s gay prime minister, shocked the world when he suddenly tendered his resignation, citing “both personal and political” reasons.
“But after careful consideration, and some soul searching, I believe that a new Taoiseach (prime minister) and a new leader will be better placed than me to achieve”, he added.
According to official statistics, the Israeli invasion in Palestine has rendered 85% of Gaza’s population homeless and without food, clean water, fuel supplies, and medicine, with about 60% of the civilian infrastructure damaged.
Israel has been charged with genocide. An interim ruling in January by the International Court of Justice moved by South Africa ordered the nation to ensure its military does not commit acts of genocide. Many believe this order is been ignored.
