Millie Bobby Bro wn, the 20-year-old actress who rose to fame with her role as Eleven in Stranger Things, surprised her fans with her American accent during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday.
The British-born star, who moved to Florida when she was eight years old, didn’t speak in her native accent as she talked about her engagement to Jake Bongiovi, her new Netflix movie Damsel, and her dog Winnie.
This didn’t sit well with a lot of viewers as some of them had already gotten used to hearing her British accent in previous interviews and roles. So they were left confused with the switch in the video posted on YouTube.
Some people in the comments speculated that Brown’s accent change was due to her spending more time in the US, especially while filming the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, where she plays a telekinetic girl with an American accent.
“That’s what happens when you stay in a different country for so long 😅 your accent slowly fizzles out“, a user wrote.
Others suggested that her accent was influenced by her fiancé, who is the son of rock legend Jon Bon Jovi.

Millie Bobby Brown has not commented on this subject yet but she has previously mentioned that she is proud of her British roots and that she loves both the UK and the US. She has also admitted that she enjoys playing different characters with different accents, and that she has learned a lot from her co-stars and mentors.
