Facundo Pellistri’s Struggles For Granada Against Villarreal

Facundo Pellistri, on loan from Manchester United, endured a forgettable outing on the Spanish east coast as Granada suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat against Villarreal, with the match never truly in contention.

While Pellistri’s loan spell began positively with standout performances, notably in Barcelona where he contributed a goal and an assist in a commendable 3-3 draw, his recent appearances have failed to match those heights.

Despite Granada maintaining possession, they managed only three shots on target compared to Villarreal’s ten, highlighting their struggles in front of goal.

Villarreal swiftly established a three-goal lead in the first half and added two more in the second, leaving Granada with little chance. A late consolation goal from substitute Theo Corbeanu in the 91st minute provided scant consolation.

Pellistri’s performance was lackluster, failing to register any shots on target and posting a meager 0.15 expected assists. His dribbling success rate was also disappointing, with only one out of three attempts proving fruitful.

Furthermore, Pellistri’s passing accuracy of 72% and frequent loss of possession (18 times) underscored his struggles on the pitch. However, he did contribute defensively with a clearance and two interceptions.

Granada’s defeat marked their 16th of the season, leaving them ten points adrift of safety and facing the looming threat of relegation from Spain’s top division.

Looking ahead, both Granada and Pellistri will aim to bounce back in their upcoming fixture against Real Sociedad at home.
