Mark Mitchell led the charge for Duke with 15 points, 11 of which came in the first half, while Jared McCain also contributed 15 points as the fourth-seeded Blue Devils secured a 64-47 victory over the 13th-seeded Vermont Catamounts in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at Barclays Center on Friday night.

Despite star player Kyle Filipowski struggling to find his rhythm, Duke had two other players scoring in double figures. Jeremy Roach and Tyrese Proctor each added 13 points, with Proctor sinking three 3-pointers.

On the Vermont side, Shamir Bogues led the scoring with 18 points, followed by Aaron Deloney with 14 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Duke’s defensive efforts.

With the win, Duke advances to the Round of 32 and will face the James Madison Dukes in another March Madness showdown on Sunday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
