The Royal Family and the public are mourning the sudden and tragic death of Thomas Kingston, the husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor and the son-in-law of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. He was 45 years old.
Mr. Kingston, who was found dead in Gloucestershire on Sunday evening, February 25th, was a financier and a former hostage negotiator, who had a remarkable and adventurous career. He also had a close friendship with Pippa Middleton, the Princess of Wales’ sister, and was a regular guest at royal events.
He married Lady Gabriella, the daughter of Prince Michael, a cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II, in May 2019 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. The wedding was attended by the King and Queen, the late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Harry, and other members of the Royal Family. The couple had no children.
The late financier was known for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. His wife, Lady Gabriella, described him as an “exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him”.
Thomas Kingston was born in 1978 and studied economic history at Bristol University. He started his career at the Foreign Office, where he worked on various projects, including a conflict resolution mission in Iraq in 2003.
He was involved in negotiating the release of hostages, and survived a suicide bomb attack that killed 22 people in Baghdad. He later moved to the private sector, working for Schroder’s Asset Management and Voltan Capital Management.
Thomas Kingston is survived by his wife, his parents Martin and Jill Kingston, and his two sisters, Joanna Connolly and Emma Murray. The family will be holding a private funeral service later.
