Just over a year into their whirlwind marriage, Porsha Williams, best known for her role on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” has filed for divorce from Simon Guobadia, a Nigerian entrepreneur.
The couple’s decision comes after they exchanged vows in November 2022 during a grand, cross-cultural celebration that became the talk of the town, featured in both Nigeria and Atlanta.
Their swift engagement, announced in May 2021 after a month-long courtship, and the subsequent high-profile nuptials garnered extensive media attention. However, despite the lavishness of their wedding, the union has been shrouded in speculation, with rumors swirling around Guobadia’s citizenship status and a purported criminal past—claims he seems unbothered about.
However, a source, possibly close to the pair, revealed to PEOPLE magazine that the split is not tied to those accusations but stems from “an ongoing matter.”
The limelight has been a constant for Porsha Williams, 42, and Simon Guobadia, 59, since the beginning of their relationship.
Williams was previously married to ex-NFL athlete Kordell Stewart and co-parents her four-year-old daughter, Pilar, with him. Meanwhile, Guobadia’s former spouse, Falynn, is also a familiar face from “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”
At this point, the two have remained silent on the specifics of their divorce. They have, however, made a statement through their actions by unfollowing one another on social platforms.
Notwithstanding the personal upheaval, Porsha Williams, who parted ways with “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” in 2022, has inked a deal with NBCUniversal. This contract marks her return to the series for its impending sixteenth season and will also see her branching into scripted content.
In a public statement, she expressed her gratitude, saying,
“I’m incredibly thankful for the vision and faith NBCUniversal has put in me to be a larger part of their family. I’m looking forward to being back on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and showing the world my new world!”
