Ewen MacIntosh, the actor who played the deadpan accountant Keith Bishop in the original British version of The Office, has died at the age of 50.
His death was confirmed by his management company, JustRight Management, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
According to his management in a statement to Variety, MacIntosh died peacefully in his sleep on Monday after being unwell for two years.
“Ewen was a wonderful actor and an even better human being. He made people laugh and possessed such a kind heart. He touched the lives of all who came into contact with him. Ewen suffered from ill health these past two years and passed peacefully on the 19th February from undisclosed causes.”
Ewen MacIntosh was born in Merioneth, Wales, and studied linguistics at Edinburgh University. He started his career as a comedian and improviser. He was also a writer and producer, and worked on several projects with his friend and colleague Ed Scott.
Ewen MacIntosh was best known for his role as Keith Bishop in The Office, the mockumentary sitcom created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, which ran for two seasons and a Christmas special from 2001 to 2003.
He also appeared in other comedy shows and films, such as Little Britain, Miranda, The Lobster, and After Life.
