Hakimi Speaks After AFCON Penalty Loss

Hakimi Speaks After AFCON Penalty Loss

Morocco and PSG player Achraf Hakimi has sent out a message after the best team in Africa was knocked out by South Africa in the round of 16.

He also apologized for missing a penalty in the 85th minute when Morocco was 1-0 down.

Morocco competed as the favorites to lift the title and the group stage was a walk in the park for them.

But when they met a resilient Bafana Bafana, it was a different story.

“Today is a very difficult and sad day for our elimination. Apologies for the penalty, I took the responsibility of helping the team, but unfortunately, it didn’t work,” Hakimi said in an Instagram post.

“I want to thank all the Moroccan people for their support, especially all the people who came to Ivory Coast. We will rise and come back stronger from now on! God willing.”

“What about you my brother, @amine_ad10? (Amine Adli) After all, you’ve been through, you came and gave it all for your country, we are so proud of you! I love you so much brother Morocco is always! (stronger) And good luck to the South African national team for the rest of the competition,” he added.

Hakimi would be going back to France to help PSG as they prepare for a League 1 clash with Lebo Mothiba’s Strasbourg.

South Africa would take on the Cape Verde outfit in their quarter-final encounter this Saturday.
