Klay Thompson’s future with the Golden State Warriors beyond the current season is uncertain as he approaches the end of his current contract. The veteran shooter will become an unrestricted free agent in 2024, and despite some glimpses of improvement, he has faced challenges during the early part of the season.
In a recent episode of FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” Shams Charania revealed that Thompson currently doesn’t have a deal on the table. Notably, he turned down a two-year, $48 million offer during the offseason, resulting in a current contract negotiation stalemate.
Thompson’s performance this season includes averages of 15.4 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, with shooting percentages of 39.7% from the field and 34.3% from beyond the arc. Struggles on the court led to him being benched in a December 12 loss to the Phoenix Suns.
As the season progresses, the Warriors face a challenging decision regarding Thompson’s future. Emerging young players are taking on more significant roles in Steve Kerr’s rotation, adding complexity to the franchise’s decisions about Thompson’s ongoing association with the team.
