Tonight marks Ryan Garcia‘s highly-anticipated return to the ring, broadcast live on DAZN. In his first bout with Derrick James as his trainer, Garcia delivered an impressive eighth-round knockout against Oscar Duarte at Toyota Arena in Houston, Texas.
Returning after his April loss, Garcia seized control just when Duarte appeared to gain momentum. A left hook to the temple sent Duarte reeling, and Garcia capitalized with a barrage of punches, compelling Duarte to take a knee.
Although Duarte rose after the count of nine, the referee halted the fight, giving Garcia (24-1) his 20th professional knockout. Throughout the fight, Garcia showcased his swift hand speed but also demonstrated respect for Duarte’s power.
The victory positions Garcia to pursue a 140-pound world title, and he directed words toward WBA titleholder Rolando “Rolly” Romero.
“I’m committing to becoming a world champion,” Garcia told DAZN. “If Rollys wants that, bring it on, Rollys.”
