On the second night of a back-to-back, the Dallas Mavericks secured a 127-125 victory against the Los Angeles Lakers, extending their winning streak to four games and improving their season record to 15-8, while the Lakers now stand at 14-10.

The Lakers took an aggressive approach in ball screen coverage, attempting to limit Luka Doncic’s influence by employing early blitzes. Dallas strategically positioned Doncic off the ball, forcing the defense to adapt and create opportunities by drawing multiple defenders.

During the first quarter, Doncic experienced a momentary setback, injuring his ankle in a play that led to a brief sideline treatment. Despite this, he returned in the second period, having stepped on Austin Reaves’ shoe during a play.

Dallas implemented various offensive strategies, including extra screening actions and diverse plays to open up space for Doncic. With players like Tim Hardaway Jr. and Grant Williams back from injuries, the Mavs capitalized on Lakers’ defensive choices, scoring 71 points in the first half.

Hardaway, initially questionable with back spasms, played a crucial role, taking charge and contributing 20 points in the first half. The absence of Kyrie Irving and other key players highlighted the importance of complementary threats stepping up within their roles.

In the second half, the Lakers adjusted their defensive tactics, leading to a shift in the Mavs’ offensive approach. The game remained competitive, but the Lakers, led by Anthony Davis, took a narrow lead entering the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Doncic continued to face defensive focus, but his precise passes, especially to Dante Exum, proved pivotal. Exum’s impressive shooting extended Dallas’ lead, securing a 127-125 win with Doncic finishing with 33 points, 17 assists, and six rebounds.

The Mavs showcased balanced scoring, with Hardaway contributing 32 points off the bench and Exum adding 26 points. Grant Williams and rookie Lively also played crucial roles in the victory.

With this win, the Mavs recorded their 14th game with 120 or more points this season, setting a team record through 23 games. Efficient shooting, low turnovers, and dominance on the boards contributed to their success.

In contrast, the Lakers received strong performances from Davis and LeBron James, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Mavs’ collective effort. The Mavs look ahead to their next game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday at the American Airlines Center.
