After the record-breaking signing of Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers are looking to sign Tyler Glasnow for a long time just like Ohtani.
The Rays agreed on a deal that would send Glasnow and veteran outfielder Manuel Margot to Los Angeles for young starter Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny Deluca, sources told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.
According to reports, both franchises have agreed on an extension for five years and $135 million, per a source, and the deal includes a $10 million signing bonus this year and has a $30 million club option for 2028.
The Dodgers recently signed Ohtani to a 10-year, $700 million record-breaking contract, but the atar would not play till 2025.
Glasgow, now 30, has played great baseball but was limited by injuries after joining the Rays in a blockbuster 2018 Trade Deadline deal with the Pirates.
Glasnow missed the first two months of the season due to a left oblique strain.
He found his form after a few games and then posted a 3.14 ERA with 129 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .204/.255/.310 slash line in 94 2/3 innings over his final 16 regular-season starts.
He finished the year with 120 innings over 21 starts, both career-high marks.
The Dodgers are also reportedly in pursuit of Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto and could bring back Clayton Kershaw, who is recovering from left shoulder surgery.
The Rays have plenty of candidates for their rotation to start next season, with Zach Eflin joined by Aaron Civale, Zack Littell, and young starters Taj Bradley, Shane Baz, and Jacob Lopez. So, they would not complain.
