Vikings Acquire Quarterback Joshua Dobbs Through Trade With Cardinals

The Vikings are expanding the quarters for their quarterback.

The team announced on Tuesday, one day before the NFL trade deadline of 3 p.m. (CT), that Minnesota is dealing for Josh Dobbs, the quarterback for the Cardinals. Dobbs and a conditional 2024 seventh-round pick were sent by the Vikings to the Cardinals in exchange for Dobbs.

This season, Dobbs has started eight games for Arizona and completed 167 of 266 passes for 1,569 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions. For the Cardinals, he had a passer rating of 81.2.

The decision was made in response to Kirk Cousins’ torn Achilles tendon injury, which forced him to miss the rest of the season’s games against Green Bay.

Back pain forced backup quarterback Nick Mullens of the Vikings to enter injured reserve on October 11. Although Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell did not state whether or not Mullens will be totally healthy at that point, Week 10 would be the earliest that he could be activated.

O’Connell has expressed faith in rookie quarterback Jaren Hall, and the Vikings have added Sean Mannion back to the practice squad.

O’Connell has not yet announced the starting quarterback for Minnesota’s game against Atlanta in Week 9.

In August, Dobbs arrived in Arizona through a trade with Cleveland, coinciding with the Cardinals’ end of joint practices with the Vikings.
