US Announced Another Round Of Free Covid Tests In Time For Holiday Travel

The US Department of Health has announced that another round of four free at-home COVID tests is now available for mail order, just in time for the holidays.

“Beginning Nov. 20, every U.S. household can again place an order to receive four more free covid-19 rapid tests delivered directly to their home,” a statement on the federal website noted Monday.

According to the website, orders will begin shipping the week of November 27.

A Department of Health and Human Services social media post mentions winter holiday travel and get-togethers as reasons to take advantage of the tests’ availability, suggesting that the new round of free tests is related to the approaching holiday season.

According to the county website, Allegheny County saw 379 cases of COVID-19 during the week ending November 11 as opposed to 302 cases the week before. This represents a slight increase in cases.

Free COVID tests were sent to households nationwide through the mail-in test program starting in January 2022. The public health emergency was closed in May of this year, marking the program’s conclusion. Restarting on September 25.

Reorders for COVID-19 tests are now available for homes that ordered them in September. A household may place two orders for a total of eight tests if it did not place one in September.

Rapid antigen at-home tests are available for purchase; results are obtained in 30 minutes. They can be used to determine whether or not a person has COVID symptoms, and they will be sent to you via mail.

For those without insurance, the Increasing Community Access to Testing (ICATT) program also offers more free COVID tests.

The printed expiration dates of some at-home COVID tests have been extended, according to a link on the Health and Human Services website. Users are advised to verify the brand and lot number of the test for more information.
